OK! pays damages and apologises for libelling Hamlins’ client18th November 2013
Hamlins’ media team have won a court case against the publisher of OK! magazine for businessman and former Crystal Palace FC owner, Simon Jordan. Simon was libelled in an interview with Alicia Douvall published on 20th August this year. This amounted to a character assassination of our client. We acted swiftly to complain and, when the magazine declined to apologise, issued proceedings in September.
The claim was driven forward efficiently and a commercial settlement achieved at an early stage. We appeared in Court this morning on behalf of Simon Jordan with a barrister appearing for OK!
Christopher Hutchings explained the background to the complaint to the Judge. He told the Court that the Defendant had also agreed to publish an Apology in the forthcoming issue of its magazine, that it had undertaken not to repeat the allegations and that it was paying Simon damages and his legal costs. This has been reported across the media including on The Guardian’s website, which you can read by clicking here.
