Hamlins’ partner quoted in the Times on the proposed newspaper ‘Google tax’

Hamlins’ IP, technology and media partner Julian Ward was quoted in the Times’ article on the proposed newspaper ‘Google tax.’ In the article on The European Commission’ s new proposal to charge Google and other platforms for publishing their stories Julian suggested that the tax could backfire by reducing competition.

Julian was quoted as saying that this proposal, which will be finalised next month, could cause the same issues as in Germany and drastically reduce the  web traffic to news publishers’ websites. He said:

‘The benefit of being part of the search often outweighs the benefit of some sort of charge.’
