Hamlins media expertise recognised in Media Law International rankings24th April 2015
Hamlins has secured a Tier 3 ranking in the Media Law International guide, a comprehensive publication profiling the best media law firms and practitioners across the world.
Media Law International praised Hamlins for having “good all round litigations skills” and highlighted the firm’s specialisms in copyright, defamation, privacy and reputation management.
Hamlins’ expertise is demonstrated by the work that the firm did acting for TVCatchup Limited, in which the firm won a landmark copyright case related to broadcasting and live streaming over the internet. The ruling was the first UK decision on EU case law regarding copies of films and broadcasts held in buffers on computers and internet-enabled devices during live streaming of films and broadcasts.
Christopher Hutchings, a well-established media litigation partner at Hamlins who is recognised as a leading expert in his field by Chambers & Partners, was also recognised for his work representing RBoS Shareholders Action Group in a libel action against News Group Newspapers.
Practice leader Laurence Gilmore says: “Hamlins’ strong reputation in the media law field has recently been enhanced with the addition of industry heavyweight Andrew Stephenson as a Consultant, and with our work on high profile and agenda-setting cases regarding phone hacking and copyright issues relating to broadcasting and live streaming over the internet.”
