Hamlins’ employment solicitor, Shivali Chaudhry comments in The Grocer on how the gig economy can ease the pressure on big firms in the grocery sector.

The ‘gig economy’, the army of independent causal workers who accept jobs or ‘gigs’ on a purely temporary basis, is a growing phenomenon. Uber loves it, so does Amazon. But what about UK online grocery businesses?

In the article, Shivali comments that big firms could immediately save “around 30%  by hiring an independent contractor in place of an employee”. “Plus they have the benefit of not having to guarantee work for them, which, during uncertain economic times, is particularly attractive.”
